Men's waterproof shoes: the gardener's all-terrain equipment
Whether gardening or DIY, the outdoor man looks for efficiency above all. While high boots remain essential for very muddy terrain, low waterproof shoes are becoming the preferred equipment for 90% of activities. Why bother with heavy boots to mow the lawn, dig in the vegetable garden, or go get firewood?
At Blackfox, we designed our men’s shoes to be true tools: robust, quick to slip on, and technically flawless. Whether it’s our indestructible PVC models for heavy-duty work or our neoprene-lined natural rubber shoes for thermal comfort, our range meets one simple demand: keeping your feet dry and safe, without compromising on freedom of movement.
PVC or Natural Rubber: which material for which use?
The choice of your footwear should depend on your playground. We use two types of materials with very distinct properties:
- PVC (for resistance): This is the choice for durability. Used on our Sèvre shoe, PVC (or thermoplastic) stands up to brambles, repeated friction, and sticky mud. It is the ideal material for heavy-duty work and "rugged" gardening.
- Natural Rubber and Neoprene (for active comfort): If you wear your shoes for several hours straight or in cool weather, natural rubber offers incomparable flexibility. Combined with neoprene (as seen on the Néo Sans Gêne or Montana shoes), it insulates against the cold and absorbs shocks, turning your garden shoe into a true technical sneaker.

Expert Advice: Caring for your garden shoes
To ensure they stay high-performing year after year, your shoes deserve a little attention:
The Sèvre PVC shoe is very low-maintenance: a quick hose-down, a swift brush if needed, and it's ready to go. Its synthetic material requires no special care to prevent aging.
For technical models like the Néo Sans Gêne or Montana, natural rubber is a "living" material. Clean them with clear water and strictly avoid drying them near a radiator or in direct sunlight, as this could cause the rubber to crack. A quick spray of silicone once a quarter will restore their flexibility and shine.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is the Sèvre shoe suitable for intensive digging?
Yes, in fact, it’s its specialty! It features a specific reinforcement under the sole. This allows you to press hard on the spade without feeling the metal bar under your foot, protecting your arch during heavy-duty tasks.
Which shoe should I choose for winter?
For cold seasons, we definitely recommend choosing neoprene-lined models like the Néo Sans Gêne or Montana. Neoprene traps body heat much better than the simple polyester used in the Sèvre, keeping your feet warm even in wet conditions.
How do these models fit?
Our men’s models fit true to size. However, keep the usage in mind: if you plan on wearing very thick work socks, be sure to check your foot length using our size guide. Thanks to its elastic insert, the Néo Sans Gêne model is particularly well-suited for high insteps.
