The perfect blend of comfort and protection: all about waterproof garden shoes
The savvy gardener knows: you don't always need high boots for every trip to the garden. Sometimes, the lightness and ease of slipping on a low shoe are all you need for a weeding session, a morning walk through the dew, or a bit of DIY work. But beware: a low shoe shouldn't mean wet feet! Waterproof shoes are the ideal compromise, offering the freedom of movement of a sneaker and the watertightness of a boot.
At Blackfox, we have developed a range of technical footwear designed for those who live outdoors. Whether it’s robust recycled PVC models or ultra-flexible natural rubber closed clogs, our goal remains the same: to keep your feet dry and comfortable, whatever the weather or the activity.
How to choose the right waterproof shoes?
Choosing your shoe will essentially depend on two factors: the intensity of your activity and your need for thermal insulation.
- For durability and soil work: If you are looking for an 'all-terrain' shoe for digging and turning the soil, PVC is a major ally. Our Sèvre model, made with recycled PVC, is built to last. It features a reinforced sole specifically designed to push down on a spade without hurting your foot.
- For comfort and insulation: If you prioritize flexibility for walking or leisure gardening, go for natural rubber. Combined with a neoprene lining (the same material used for diving suits), it offers remarkable thermal insulation. This is the secret behind our Néo Sans Gêne and Montana models, which keep your feet warm even when the ground is cold and damp.

Care instructions: Extend the life of your footwear
Well-maintained footwear will stay with you season after season. Care will primarily depend on the material of your specific model:
- For PVC (Sèvre model): It couldn’t be simpler. A quick spray with a hose is all it takes to remove mud. For a deeper clean, soapy water and a sponge will work wonders. Let them air dry, away from any direct heat source.
- For Natural Rubber (Néo Sans Gêne and Montana models): This premium material requires a little more care to maintain its flexibility. Clean them with fresh water. Once a quarter, we recommend applying a silicone spray to nourish the rubber and prevent cracking caused by UV rays.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is the Néo shoe really warm?
Yes, it’s one of its major strengths. The neoprene lining in the Néo Sans Gêne traps a thin layer of air that insulates your foot from the cold outside. It’s ideal for mid-season and early winter.
Can you use these shoes for digging?
Absolutely, but you need to choose the right model. The Sèvre and Montana shoes are equipped with a rigid reinforcement under the sole (a shank) specifically designed to absorb the pressure of the tool while digging, thus protecting your arch.
How do these models fit?
Our waterproof shoes generally fit true to size. However, if you wear thick socks for gardening, feel free to check your size using our size guide or consult the customer reviews on the product page.
